ABOUT US

The company was founded by Léah Bonaventura and Sophie Faurie in 2023.

Since their meeting at the renowned East 15 Acting School (BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre), both Léah and Sophie have embarked on a number of projects together for both stage and screen.

Precipice Theatre seeks out the uncomfortable subjects, the ones we’d rather avoid, and invites you to see them from a new perspective.

Their work toes the line and turns the "common" into a commotion.

They create physical and devised theatre that challenges and provokes.

Léah is a theatre-maker (director, actor, writer, and producer) who grew up in Paris.

As a child, she dreamt of becoming either a writer, a singer or a dancer. She found her way to theatre during her "Classe Prépa" (Khâgne classique), where she discovered contemporary theatre as a field of possibilities, open to movement, text, light, characters, and forms yet unnamed. The possibilities felt endless, and she was immediately drawn to its creative freedom.

She trained with La Jeune Troupe de L’Atalante before entering the Regional Conservatoire of Boulogne-Billancourt (CPES Théâtre 2017-2020). At the same time, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies and Literature at Sorbonne Nouvelle, followed by a Master’s degree in Theatre and Other Arts (Sorbonne Nouvelle & ENS Ulm). Her thesis was a comparative study of the work of Claude Régy, Romeo Castellucci, and Sharon Eyal, entitled “The Void or The Sublime Source of Creation.”

In 2020, she began her training at East 15 Acting School (BA Acting & Contemporary Theatre), an experience she found groundbreaking for the way it encouraged creative exploration to its fullest. It was there that she met Sophie Faurie, with whom she co-founded Precipice Theatre.

Her work searches for light in darkness, dreams in reality, and hope in horror, always pushing against the limits of what we believe. It is never fully realistic; the absurd has a habit of showing up anyway.

Associate Artist

Sophie is a queer, working-class, multi-disciplinary performer and theatre-maker – she is also the first to admit that that is a lot of hyphens.

She trained at the Cours Florent in Paris 2016-2017 under the late Isabelle Duparray and then later trained under the infectiously child-like curiosity of Uri Roodner at East 15 –graduating in 2023.

It was during her time at East 15 that Sophie met Leah and they bonded over their shared drive to create and keep pushing the boundaries of what they personally can acheive. Inspired by queer and female-led stories – she craves work that has a relevance to today, something bigger than the pages it was written on.

Her work leans into the dark, downtrodden and despairing truth of humanity but digs around and drags out the light, showing her inner tragic clown whenever she can.
